My 3-day pitching masterclass was a success a couple of weeks ago!

I am planning on running 2 more this winter.

Dates are still TBD, but I am creating a waitlist for players interested.

The camp will become available first to the people on the list.

Changeups and splitters might have more grip options than any other pitch type.

I am always tinkering and trying new ones.

As a coach, the more options I can have for my pitchers, the better. We all know, every pitcher is different and what works for one, won't necessarily work for the next.

I recently came across 2 new changeup grips that have been working really well for multiple pitchers.

They are both very similar, just positioned on a different part of the baseball.

Here's the first one:

And Grip #2:

With both of these grips the pinky, middle, and ring finger are together.

This takes a little while for players to get used to, especially as they form the circle with their index finger.

The next thing to note, are the fingers need to be in between the seams and not on top. When one gets on top of a seam the tendency is to cut the ball.

Now for the index finger.

Curl it over top of the seam. It doesn't need to be a big circle, but try to have it curling towards your hand.

The next thing to play with is the depth in your hand.

It naturally will need to be a little deeper than a regular changeup grip because the index finger is split apart from the fingers by a decent amount.

Make sure you are not choking it though.

As for the cues, pitchers that naturally supinate, simply tell them to throw it like a fastball.

For others, the cue of "throw it through the split" seems to work well.

Give these grips a shot and let me know what you think!

See you next week.
